  • Cook Time: 40 min
  • Total Time: 55 minutes
  • Yield: 6 servings 1x

Description

Sweet and tender spiced apples topped with a buttery cinnamon oat crisp topping.  A perfect fall dessert!

Ingredients

Scale

Apple Base

  • 5 large apples, peeled, cored & sliced (such as Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 2 tbsp light brown sugar
  • 2 tbsp granulated sugar
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp nutmeg

Crisp Topping

  • 1 cup old fashioned oats
  • 1/2 cup light brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold & diced

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F and prepare an 8×8″ baking pan by lightly spraying with non-stick cooking spray.
  2. Peel, core, and thinly slice (or dice) the apples.  Add the apples to a bowl and toss with lemon juice, brown sugar, granulated sugar, cornstarch, cinnamon, and nutmeg.  Transfer to the prepared baking pan.
  3. In a separate bowl, combine oats, brown sugar, flour, cinnamon, and salt.  Add in the cold diced butter and use a pastry cutter or your hands to cut the butter into the dry mixture until the butter is broken down into smaller pieces and clumps form.  Sprinkle the topping evenly over the apples.
  4. Bake for 40-50 minutes, until the topping is golden brown and the apples are bubbling.  Allow to cool for 15-20 minutes before serving.  Top with vanilla ice cream and/or salted caramel sauce if desired (highly recommended)!
