Peanut Butter Cup Rice Krispies Treats

How to Make Peanut Butter Cup Rice Krispie Treats

Rice Krispie treats are one of the easiest to make and most nostalgic desserts around! Simple and quick to whip up whenever the craving strikes.

  • Use a large pot to melt the butter and the mini marshmallows together.
  • Remove the pan from the heat and stir in the creamy peanut butter and a pinch of salt (don’t leave out the salt!)
  • Toss in the Rice Krispie cereal and chopped peanut butter cups until everything is evenly mixed.
  • Spread into a lined and greased 8×8″ pan and press gently into an even layer. Top with additional chopped peanut butter cups.
  • Allow treats to set for 1 hour before slicing.
  • If desired, drizzle with melted peanut butter and melted chocolate.

Tips for Achieving the Perfect Rice Krispie Treats

  1. Before you start have all your ingredients measured out and ready to go. This recipe comes together quick, so best to have everything ready before you begin.
  2. Keep an eye on the pot when melting the marshmallows. Stir frequently to avoid burning the marshmallows or sticking too much to the pan.
  3. Spray a spatula with non-stick cooking spray and use it to press the mixture into the prepared pan. Or use slightly damp hands to pat into place.
  4. Avoid packing the treats in too tightly. Compacting too much can cause the treats to become a little hard to bite into.
  5. After drizzling with peanut butter and/or chocolate, place the bars into the fridge to set for about 10 minutes.
  6. Once set, store the bars at room temperature covered with foil or plastic wrap.

Description

Easy to make rice krispie treats, filled with marshmallow, peanut butter, and peanut butter cup candies!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 10 oz bag mini marshmallows
  • 1/2 cup creamy peanut butter (such as Jiff or Skippy)
  • Pinch of salt
  • 5 cups Rice Krispies cereal
  • 8 oz Reese’s mini peanut butter cups, roughly chopped
  • (Optional: melted peanut butter and melted chocolate, for drizzling)

Instructions

  1. Prepare an 8×8″ or 9×9″ pan by lining with parchment paper and lightly spraying with non-stick cooking spray.
  2. In a large pot, melt the butter over medium heat.  Add in the mini marshmallows and heat until fully melted, stirring frequently to prevent sticking or burning.  Remove from the heat and stir in the peanut butter and a pinch of salt.
  3. Mix in the Rice Krispies cereal and chopped peanut butter cups until everything is evenly combined.
  4. Spread the mixture into the prepared pan and gently press down into an even layer.  (You can use a spatula sprayed with cooking spray or slightly damp hands to press things into place.)  Top with additional chopped mini peanut butter cups.
  5. Allow to set for 1 hour before slicing into 9 large (or 16 small) squares.  (*Optional: drizzle with melted peanut butter and/or melted chocolate for added flair & flavor!)
