Slow Cooker Apple Butter

Description

An addictive apple butter spread, lightly spiced and full of concentrated apple flavor.  Perfect on toast or to use in many baking recipes. 


Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 lbs apples, peeled, cored, and chopped (I like Honeycrisp apples)
  • 1 cup apple cider
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp nutmeg
  • 1/4 tsp allspice
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions

  • Combine all ingredients together into a slow cooker.  Cover and cook on low for 8 hours or high for 4 hours, stirring halfway through cooking.
  • Once apples are soft use a high powered blender or an immersion blender to blend the apples until smooth.  Return to the slow cooker and continue cooking, uncovered on high for 2 hours, stirring occasionally.  The apple butter will thicken slightly but will still be runny while its warm.  It should be able to coat the back of a spoon.
  • Turn the slow cooker off and allow the mixture to cool to room temperature.  Store in glass jars in the fridge or freeze if not planning to use right away.
