Pecan Brown Butter Blondie Brownies

Going to a party?  Need to bring something?  Want it to be simple yet impressive?  I thought so. Enter blondie brownies!  These pecan brown butter blondies are a wonderful brownie texture with added crunch from toasted pecans and a surprise center layer.  They are bursting with a warm molasses flavor from the brown sugar in both the blondie and brown butter layers.

Pecan Brown Butter Blondie Brownies

I’ve made other versions of blondies in the past but it has honestly been a while.  Hmmm, maybe I should revisit that chocolate chip cookie blondie from way back when…  Here I go again, easily distracted by the thought of baked goods and constantly adding more ideas to my endlessly growing list of “To Bake” items. 🙂

But back to the recipe at hand.  A few weeks back I was browsing one of my many cooking magazines and came across this version of a blondie I had never seen before.  It was perfect timing.  I needed something to bring to a party and these stood out as being easily transportable but still a little snazzier than your everyday brownie!

Pecan Brown Butter Blondie Brownies

Overall, a pretty straightforward recipe, just remember to keep a close eye on the butter as it browns so it doesn’t burn.  Browned butter is to die for, but burnt butter…yuck!  You probably recall my fascination with browned butter from these cookies or the addicting frosting from these babies as well.  I’m telling ya, when I like something I really like it.

Once cooled the blondies are easy to cut into individual sizes for transporting or a lovely display. Plus cutting them shows off that amazing gooey center layer!

Don’t forget to try these a la mode!  Maybe even add a little caramel drizzle!  Yum!

Description

A unique blondie brownie with a gooey brown butter center and toasted pecans.

Ingredients

Scale

Brown Butter Mixture

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter (1 stick)
  • 1 large egg
  • 3/4 cup light brown sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/3 cup all-purpose flour

Blondie Brownie

  • 1 cup unsalted butter (2 sticks), softened
  • 2 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 cup chopped pecans
  • 1 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 3/4 cups light brown sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions

Brown Butter Mixture

  1. Cook butter in a saucepan over medium heat, stirring frequently, until butter foams, turns brown and small brown bits form, about 5-8 minutes.
  2. Transfer butter to a medium bowl and let cool slightly.
  3. In the same bowl, beat together egg, brown sugar, vanilla and salt until mixture is light and falls from back on itself in a ribbon.
  4. Fold in flour.

Blondie Brownie

  1. Preheat oven to 350ºF. Grease a 13×9″ baking dish.
  2. Lightly toast pecans on baking sheet until slightly darkened, 8-10 minutes. Let cool.
  3. Whisk together baking powder, salt, and flour in a medium bowl. In a separate bowl beat together brown sugar and 1 cup butter with mixer until light and fluffy. Add eggs, one at time, and mix until pale and fluffy. Mix in vanilla.
  4. On low speed mix in dry ingredients. Fold in half of toasted pecans. Batter will be thick.
  5. Place 2/3 of batter into greased baking pan and spread evenly to all edges. Spread brown butter mixture over batter. Top with remaining 1/3 of batter. Sprinkle remaining pecans on top and lightly press into batter.
  6. Bake until blondie is golden brown and firm, 30-35 minutes. (A tester will not come out clean).

Notes

  • Try serving warm and topped with vanilla ice cream!
